What is a brow lift?
A brow lift, endoscopic brow lift, scarless brow lift, and forehead lift are forms of surgery to lift it to give a more youthful appearance. Eyebrow lifting surgery can be performed by a plastic surgeon or an eye plastic surgeon. An eye plastic surgeon specializes in the area around the eyes.
What does a brow lift do?

Direct brow lift
A direct brow lift is a surgical procedure used to elevate the eyebrows and reduce wrinkles in the forehead. It is done by making an incision in one of the horizontal forehead lines, usually hidden in the hairline. During the procedure, an area of forehead skin and underlying tissues is removed from above the eyebrows, and the incision is then closed with sutures. Depending on where the incision is made, this procedure may leave a scar either just above the eyebrow or in a forehead skin crease. A mini version of this procedure, called a lateral direct browpexy, involves making a small incision in the outer brow and lifting the outer aspect with stitches.
Trans-eyelid brow lift browpexy
A browpexy is a procedure that can be done in conjunction with an upper eyelid blepharoplasty to lift the eyebrows. If the patient has excess upper eyelid skin that needs to be removed, the browpexy can be done through the same incision in the upper eyelid crease. Stitches are used to secure the browpexy higher up to the deeper tissues, so they do not show through the skin. This is a useful procedure if only a small lift is needed.
Endoscopic brow lift
An endoscopic brow lift is a surgical procedure that uses small incisions hidden within the hairline. This procedure, also known as an endoscopic forehead lift, involves making a tunnel under the skin of the forehead from the incisions to the brow, freeing it from the tissues that are holding it down. Sutures or fixation plates are then used to lift the brow and give it an endoscopic lift. This procedure requires general anesthesia, meaning the patient is put to sleep.
Temporal brow lift
A temporal brow lift is a procedure that is used when only the outer part of the brow area needs to be lifted. The scar is hidden in the hairline just above the ear, and a tunnel is created under the skin to release the outer area, which is then lifted with sutures. This is a less invasive form of browlift surgery and does not correct any droop of the brow on the inner aspect of the eye above the nose.
Coronal brow lift
A coronal brow lift is a surgical procedure that combines a forehead lift and brow lift in one. It involves making an incision across the hairline, through which the forehead and brows are lifted. This procedure is performed under general anaesthesia and can be effective in achieving the desired aesthetic outcome. However, it can lead to numbness of the scalp, and the scar may be visible in those who do not scar well. Additionally, it is not suitable for those who have a receding or irregular hairline. What does a brow lift do?
A browpexy is a procedure that is usually performed under local anaesthesia. However, general anaesthesia is typically recommended in order to achieve the best possible results. A limited temporal brow lift can also be done under local anaesthesia, but the results may not be as satisfactory. How long does a brow lift last?
The longevity of a brow lift depends on the technique used and how an individual ages. Generally, an endoscopic lift can last up to 5-7 years, while a direct coronal brow lift can last for up to 10 years. However, it is important to note that this may vary from person to person, and that a neck lift may not always be permanent.
Is a brow lift permanent?
The effects of surgery are permanent after eyebrow lifting. Surgery does not stop the aging process even though your skin will continue to age over time causing the eyebrow to come down.
Can a brow lift fix hooded eyes?
Brow lift surgery can correct sagging brows, resulting in an appearance of an eyelid lift. This procedure helps to restore the youthful appearance of the upper face, while reducing the appearance of forehead wrinkles and horizontal lines in the upper face.
How painful is a brow lift?
Eyebrow lifting is usually painless during surgery. Eyebrow fixation under local anesthesia is also painless although you may feel a stinging sensation for 20 seconds during the application of anesthesia. You may have some bruising and swelling around the eyebrows after surgery which can feel sore for a week until it starts to settle. With the endoscopic technique, there can be higher bruises on the forehead which will also settle. You may feel some tightness in the forehead after the procedure.
How long is the recovery from bow lift surgery?
Bruising and swelling can last for about 2 weeks when many people can return to normal activity. It is being discussed whether laparoscopic lifting has a shorter recovery time. The healing process varies from person to person and some people may take less or more time to recover. The full effect of surgery can take 2 months to manifest. What is the difference between a brow lift and a forehead lift?
Strictly speaking, the difference between a brow lift and a forehead lift lies in where the excess skin is removed. A forehead lift involves removing the upper forehead skin to help lift the brows, while a brow lift focuses on the forehead skin above the brows to raise them. As both procedures ultimately result in a similar effect, they are often used interchangeably.
